Alegría is a guitar and lute duo formed in 2007 by Lawrence Pitzer, a longtime teacher of classical guitar and lute in the Springfield, Ohio
area and Leslie Arendt, a “once in a lifetime” student of his. The Spanish word “Alegría” translates as joy, which describes what the two
performers feel while making music, and hopes to share with their audience.
Lawrence Pitzer has been the classical guitar teacher at Wittenberg University since 1970, he started the guitar department at Wright State
University in 1972 (between 1972 and 1985), and currently also teaches at Cedarville University. He has studied guitar with Miguel Abloniz,
Loris Chobanian, and Jeffery Van, and studied lute with Paul O’Dette and Ronn Macfarlane. Besides being a member of Alegría Mr. Pitzer
also performs with “Wind in the Woods” an early music ensemble in the Dayton, Ohio area.
Leslie Arendt is a home school graduate and has studied guitar and lute with Mr. Pitzer since 2003. Leslie is also an accomplished harpist
and plays in the Springfield area regularly. She designs and reproduces period clothing when not practicing her many instruments.
Saturday, October 25, 2008 we had a fun filled day of face painting, kirigami, poi, and hula hoop dancing!
Face Painting: Local artists Kat Koeller and Stacia Dine-Axe painted faces using professional grade, hypoallergenic face paints.
Become a tiger, a butterfly, a superhero or just a more amazing you!
Kirigami: a variation of origami where the artist is allowed to make small cuts in the paper (from Japanese kiru= to cut, kami=
paper). Local artist Sara Kelley will be instructing
Poi: a form of juggling or object manipulation ball and a length of string or rope. The poi balls are swung in circular patterns,
comparable to club-twirling.
Hula Hoop Dancing: local dance troupe The Hypnotic Hips instructed children how to manipulate the Hula Hoop in 5 new exciting
tricks.

The Wright State University Lake Campus Junior Scholars program recently hosted their second session of the year at New Bremen High
School’s James F. Dicke Auditorium. Students were entertained by Wright State University’s Chamber Choir, conducted by Dr. Hank Dahlman.
The group performed popular and upbeat songs for the young crowd who treated each performance piece to cheers and loud applauses. The
Chamber Choir consists of Wright State students, most of them non-music majors, but talented singers who enjoy performing. Dahlman
stressed to the students that music is a great way to get involved in collegiate activities.
The following schools brought a total of 125 students to the event: Antwerp, Houston, Marion Local, Minster, New Bremen, New Knoxville,
Parkway, St. Henry, St. Marys and Waynesfield-Goshen.

This event was part of the celebration of the 40th Anniversary Walk with Nature. The event also included a chili cook-off, the Fall Festival Farmers
Market, a Plein Air painting Exhibit and, of course, the Walk with Nature along the canal. Event was free and open to the public. The Muleskinner
Band has been providing its listeners with a unique blend of quality bluegrass, gospel, and traditional country music for 22 years. Tight harmony,
upbeat humor, and excellent musicianship make a Muleskinner performance perfect for the whole family. An afternoon with the Muleskinners
certainly included frequent and proflic storytelling, humor, and good-hearted dialogue with the audience.
